An Amber Weather Warning from the Met Office is due to take effect from 00:01am on Tuesday, 31 December 2024 and covers a number of areas within the Highland region. At particular risk of flooding are areas within the Nairn & Cawdor ward along the banks of the River Nairn.

The imposing Cawdor Castle south-west of Nairn, traditional home of the Thanes of Cawdor. According to tradition it was built from 1370 around a hawthorn tree whose trunk can still be seen in the castle cellars.
