i can't stress how cool it is by @olimex to put out this SOM as real open hardware with KiCAD design files: https://github.com/OLIMEX/iMX8MP-SOM
if anyone needs a more advanced KiCAD training project, adapting this for the MNT Reform module format would be a nice challenge ^^
@mntmn
Oh wow, that is really cool!
Were they going to do that anyway, or did this come about through you when you boight them in batch for the pocket reform?
Seing this, I think you should absolutely bring it back as an option in the shop.
Getting the reform with an open hardware SOM is really cool, but with both the ls1028a and the i.mx8mplus gone, that's no longer an option which is a shame.
@mntmn
Also, if you are going to touch it, could you add a field for the emmc storage to the table? It varies quite a bit between the different SOMs. From you wont need an SSD to where an SSD is a must...
@vimja no, this has nothing to do with that. we're shipping the ezurio/boundary devices nitrogen imx8mp som
@mntmn
Ah, I see. My bad. You can ignore my earlier post then.
@vimja sorry for the confusion!
@mntmn @olimex it's also really cheap (with the EVB, delivered to NAm in a week for USD$180) for this class of SoC, wonderful product! I've bought one and recommended it to colleagues.
I do have some worries about the module-to-board connectors they selected, tho, particularly in the context of Reform. They're fairly tall pin headers, so after assembly the module sits about 1cm above the carrier (my calipers have gone walkies so I can't be very precise). The pins also make assembly a bit nerve-wracking, you have to make sure you have the alignment right and don't bend pins by pressing down on one corner before the others.
