I’ve got a new camera! Pentax KX. Unlike the Canon Ae-1 Program, it’s fully mechanical. Everything seems to be in working order, except the focusing ring being misaligned and rotating past infinity.
@Gargron Hell yeah. I'm a big fan of Pentax SLRs. I got my start on an MX, similarly fully mechanical, followed by an ME Super, Its automatic kid sister.
Hope you have some fun with it
@Gargron That looks pretty clean. I hope it comes with a camera case.
@Gargron Maybe it once belonged to Buzz Lightyear?
@Gargron I learned 35mm photography on a hand-me-down K1000 back in the day. Awesome cameras.
@Gargron@mastodon.social Not a bad range of cameras, I've got a K500 tucked away upstairs.
@Gargron That's the daddy of my fleet of MXs! Reading reviews at https://www.pentaxforums.com/camerareviews/pentax-kx.html I see it adds mirror lockup and a less resistant shutter speed dial, in exchange for that extra kilo or so of weight! I've always rather fancied one, but since I have ME, MX and LX, there's not really any point (MLU not useful for me as I hate tripods!). The aperture telltale window is really useful. You should enjoy this!
@Gargron beautiful camera. Yes I still have my grandfather's Asahi Pentax Spotmatic camera, with a zoom lens, flash, etc. Haven't used it for decades but it was all still working 100% when I last used 35mm film.
@Gargron Very nice. I bought an Olympus OM-1 in 1979, I still have it, and I agonised for months between it and the Pentax ME. Both are beautifully small SLRs with a huge range of lenses and accessories.
I opted for the OM-1 because it is fully mechanical. It will keep working when the meter battery fails. I love that.
@Gargron New-old camera
@Gargron
So now you can see what's beyond Infinity?!
@Gargron nice! I have my granddfather's Pentax ME but it has some similar issues and I haven't had a lot of success with it. Lovely camera though.
@Gargron my first was an AE-1, and I also got a K-1000 for that very reason as well. Fully mechanical=long exposure beast
@Gargron inhad one great camera
@Gargron apologies for saying this, but does that mean " To infinity, and beyond".
On another note, my second slr was a Pentax ME Super. Lovely camera.
