after trying a lot of stuff and years of using notmuch-emacs i've switched to evolution as my email client program, which, after turning off the outlook-like UI, works great for me (i always have to delete and filter tons of mail quickly to stay afloat). though i've heard some rumblings about evolution's future that make me wonder if it's going to stick around. or is that only about gnome's tight evolution integration which might go away? any plans that can be shared? cc @tbernard

@tbernard @mntmn I've personally been fond of Roundcube for email here. Being able to integrate it with Spamassassin and Dovecot's Sieve filtering has been great.

@vvelox yeah webmail is another thing we're going to set up for some accounts/specific use cases, but i'm undecided between roundcube and sogo.

@mntmn
May I ask why Evolution? Why not, for example, mutt, Claws mail, or Thunderbird?

@mntmn
Oh can you elaborate how you had to change your workflow when switching to evolution?

I am using notmuch-emacs for many years. I love the fast search and the ability to easily work on mails with keystrokes. Also to like to link mails from within emacs.

Tagging is also a feature that I use.
@tbernard

@mntmn Realistically I don't think Evolution is going away anytime soon, but it's also unlikely to see major work, it's been in minimum viable maintenance mode for years and my guess is it'll stay that way :)

There are multiple people working towards new, from-scratch email clients using GTK4 and modern design patterns, but none of those are close to shipping at the moment.

@tbernard thanks for the status update! that sounds good, basically!
