As if we needed another reason to abandon #facebook and #meta.
Facebook's internal policies have changes to ban discussions surrounding Linux citing "security threats." Users will see their accounts locked if they participate in such posts/discussions. The company has has stated that it violates community standards.
Interestingly, Meta is routinely hiring Linux developers and engineers.
@peteorrall
Interesting personal story:
I decided to leave Insta and facebook. So I put a post on my wall to tell people about it.
Roughly 125 friends on facebook got a PM from me telling them why I'm leaving and that they can find me in the fediverse.
Not even a dozen replied to my message, most of them want to stay in touch. They are either already on Mastodon, Signal or they're gonna move too.
That leaves 100 people who obviously see not need or reason to leave Meta.
Frustrating
@ruedi Frustrating indeed. I've run into similar problems with PixelFed and Instagram. People know the platforms are toxic, yet they are willing to stay.
@peteorrall
The level of noticeable silence and ignorance is astonishing. People who don't even bother replying to a message telling them a longtime contact is leaving a site.... very telling.
Makes me sad in a way but I've decided to just don't have these contacts anymore from next Saturday. Friends who don't reply will be deleted - together with my facebook profile.
@ruedi Very telling indeed. I've been thinking about this throughout the day yesterday. It really shows just how intertwined (invasive and dependent, really) Meta and people's daily lives have become.
@peteorrall
Yep, the word intertwined describes it perfectly.
For me this dependence is gonna end in a couple of days.
@peteorrall If you talk about BSD they assume you're discussing a Windows Blue Screen of Death.
@mikej Haha love it!
@peteorrall AFAIK, RHEL is used in their servers and Fedora is their internal workstation for employees
@peteorrall good stuff to show anyone claiming "free speech" on these alt-right controlled platforms is somehow improved vs last year
@tek Well, isn't *that* creepy!
