Scheint, als würde die Iceshrimp-Instanz, auf der ich meinen Main-Account habe, gerade nicht funktionieren.

So, I'm back at "where should I move this account?"
I thought Akkomane was the answer, unfortunately, it was not.
There wasn't any one deal breaker, but a few tiny ones that added up.
Namely: it doesn't work with Bridgy Fed, Thumbnails didn't appear when I shared links for some reason, and also it doesn't seem to be able to communicate with Wordpress sites that have the ActivityPub plugin.
So, I'm back to square one.
As a reminder: I want to leave Firefish for two reasons:
1. It's dead. While it's still working great, it will not receive anymore updates ever.
2. Its API doesn't work with many apps (I'd love to be able to use this account with Surf or OpenVibe and such, and I can't)
Part of me thinks about merging this account with my Mastodon account, but I don't know. I like having two accounts talking roughly about different things (even if the limit is somewhat porous).
Another Mastodon account? I'd like to have this account not on Mastodon, basically.
Misskey and forks? (Firefish being one.) Maybe, but after having used Firefish for about two years, I think those are great if you're a community on the same server (i.e. most people on the same server know and follow each other), otherwise, there are too many functions I end up never using. Also, the problem with the API is the same as with Firefish, I believe.
The new IceShrimp (the dot NET one): I'd love to try it, but it's still in beta (anyone knows of a server where I can see what it looks like?)
Something else?
GoToSocial? I admit I'm not too familiar with it. Is there a way to try it without having to install everything on a server and such?
What I'd like is something that allows long posts like this one (I can be talkative and threads of posts are annoying).
Something using Mastodon API so that it is compatible with most apps.
Something that can communicate well with all or most of the Fediverse (including Bridgy Fed, Wordpress ActivityPub, etc.)
(ideally, a server where I know and trust the admin, but that's only in an ideal world)
Any idea I may not be aware of (note that my technical skills are somewhat limited, and no, I can't install something myself on a machine or a server)

Denn mit dem nötigen Wissen, wörer ersichtlich das Calckey eine Entwicklungsstufe ist und die jeweiligen aktiven Stufen #Sharkey und #IceShrimp sind.
Ich habe keine Ahnung was und von wem du das gelesen hast. Denn such da stellt sich die Frage, wie kompetent sind diese Personen, die sich geÄußert haben.
Wenn der Austausch wirklich ein Problem wäre, könnten wir uns beide nicht unterhalten.
Es bleibt immer noch, DSS gleiche Protokoll.
Wenn es Limitierungen gibt, kommen die von Mastodon, die Teile fremder Nachrichten wegwirft und den Mastodon Usern nicht anzeigt.
Und klar gibt es auch Probleme beim austausch. Die liegen zu 90% aber auf Instanzebene, unabhängig der verwendeten Software.
Es ist jeder erst mal gut beraten, bevor hier irgend was behauptet wird, abzuklären was die Gründe sind.

Liebe Leute,
ich habe ja einen Blick über den Tellerand geworfen und Friendica und Iceshrimp getestet. Ich nutze jetzt quasi ausschließlich Iceshrimp und lasse Mastodon links liegen. Das ist einfach so passiert. Das heißt ich werde zeitnah umziehen und dann ausschließlich den Iceshrimp Account nutzen

Ich habe mit masto mehr als 3 Spalten und kann das passend Anzeigen lassen.
Weil mir das aber nicht reicht, nutze ich #Calckey/#IceShrimp, das mir noch mehr Möglichkeiten bietet

Some may have moved to other Mastodon instances.
Some may have moved to other places in the Fediverse that are not Mastodon. Maybe they needed more characters and more features and found them on Iceshrimp or Sharkey or Akkoma. Maybe they also wanted to move away from Facebook, got themselves a Friendica account, and then they discovered that a) Friendica is much more powerful, and b) you can follow Mastodon accounts from Friendica and vice versa. And they decided that their Mastodon account was now superfluous because Friendica can do just about all the same and a whole lot on top. Maybe they were even daring enough to tackle Hubzilla's massive learning curve to be rewarded with Hubzilla's massive set of features.
Either way, in the cases in the above paragraph, they couldn't mark their Mastodon accounts as moved to some other specific place, so you won't know.
Still, I think it's bad manners not to tell anyone where you've gone.

Du schreibst immer mal wieder Posts, die du zu einem Thread zusammenfügen fügen musst, weil sie mehr als 500 Zeichen haben (was definitiv nicht schön aussieht in der TL) und auf der Suche nach einer guten Alternative dazu?
Dann probiere doch mal eine andere #Fediverse #Plattform aus.
Hier pflege ich eine Liste mit offenen Instanzen, wo man mindestens 3000 Zeichen schreiben kann.

Außerdem kann man zum Beispiel mit #Sharkey Accountlisten verwenden, ohne dass man dazu den Accounts folgen muss.
Falls dir diese neue Sicht auf das Fediverse gefällt, dann kannst du sogar deinen Mastodon Account dorthin umziehen.
Was musst du machen, um das mal auszuprobieren
1. Such dir eine Instanz aus, die dir gefallen könnte.
2. Lege dort einen Account an.
3. Exportiere (/settings/export) dein "Folge ich" Accounts in eine CSV Datei.
4. Importiere (/settings/import-export) die Datei in deinen neuen Account unter "Gefolgte Benutzer Import".
5. Viel Spaß beim Ausprobieren!

@vulgalour First of all, "image description" and "alt-text" don't mean the same thing.
Alt-text is what's added directly to the image. It's what screen readers used by blind or visually-impaired people read out loud as they can't "read out loud" an image. It's what people see instead of the image if the image doesn't show for them (text-based client, too slow Internet connection, whatever).
Alt-text should never convey more information than the image which it is a replacement for.
An image description that goes into the post itself is not alt-text.
I don't see any rule or part of the "Fediquette" or "Mastodon culture" that speaks against adding that additional information to a reply.
Whether it works or not depends on whether your customers accept it or not. I guess that 99% of your aspiring customers in the Fediverse will be on Mastodon, only see your start post and not be bothered to check the replies. So my suggestion is to leave room in the original post for tellling your customers that prices can be found in a reply to that post.
But seeing as this will happen to you a lot, it may be worth looking for someplace that offers you more than 500 characters:
If you need a five-digit character count, the best you can do requires basically re-learning the Fediverse, mastering a significantly steeper learning curve and very likely abandoning dedicated apps. Here we're talking about Mike Macgirvin's creations from Friendica (200,000 characters) to Hubzilla (probably even higher) to (streams) and Forte (over 24,000,000 characters).

Manche Menschen bevorzugen Mastodon – einige von ihnen sind fest davon überzeugt, während andere das gesamte Fediverse noch gar nicht richtig kennen. Dann gibt es wiederum diejenigen, die sich darüber aufregen, dass so viel über Mastodon geredet wird, weil sie selbst das ganze Fediverse schätzen und es nicht mögen, wenn eine Plattform so stark im Fokus steht.
Aber mal ehrlich, liebe Leute: Könnt ihr nicht einfach akzeptieren, dass jede:r Nutzer:in ihre bzw. seine eigene Meinung und Entscheidung hat? Muss wirklich jede Diskussion darüber ausarten, ob Mastodon „die eine“ Plattform ist oder ob es nicht vielmehr um das gesamte Fediverse gehen sollte? Könnt ihr nicht einfach zulassen, dass jede:r ihre oder seine eigene Reise durch das Fediverse macht – mit all den Umwegen, Entdeckungen und persönlichen Vorlieben?
Natürlich ist es schön, wenn ihr die für euch passende Plattform gefunden habt. Aber warum reicht es dann nicht aus, sich einfach darüber zu freuen, anstatt immer wieder zu betonen, wie falsch es angeblich ist, von Mastodon zu sprechen, anstatt das Fediverse als Ganzes zu nennen? Oder gar darüber zu urteilen, dass manche bewusst bei Mastodon bleiben wollen?
Und ihr, die Mastodon-Hardliner – auch ihr dürft es gerne etwas entspannter angehen lassen. Es ist großartig, wenn euch Mastodon begeistert, aber man muss aus dem Rüsseltier keine Religion machen. Ja, Mastodon ist eine tolle Plattform, aber auch die anderen Netzwerke haben ihre Vorzüge – genauso wie sie ihre Schwächen haben. Und genau deshalb haben sie alle ihre Berechtigung. Dieser ewige „Klassenkampf“ zwischen den Plattform-Nutzer:innen ist auf Dauer einfach nur ermüdend und bringt niemanden weiter.
Lasst die Menschen doch einfach in ihrem eigenen Tempo das Fediverse erkunden. Jede:r geht diesen Weg anders – einige bleiben bei Mastodon, andere ziehen weiter und probieren Neues aus.
Ich selbst habe damals auch mit Mastodon angefangen. Jahrelang war es mein Zuhause, bevor ich begann, andere Plattformen zu erkunden. Manche fand ich großartig, andere haben mir überhaupt nicht gefallen. Und am Ende? Da bin ich wieder bei Mastodon gelandet – weil es mir persönlich einfach am besten gefällt.
Also, genießt das, was ihr nutzt, freut euch über eure Community – und gesteht allen anderen dasselbe zu.

iceshrimp seems to update faster than Mastodon did for me. The server is halfway around the world and still seems faster. Wonder if my old hardware was junk. #Iceshrimp

@Xhuul I like #iceshrimp but I don’t have as much experience as the others. In terms of the most visually pleasing, I have found #sharkey to be very nice and very powerful. (Fork of #misskey)
Hey, I want y'all to give me the most pathological MFM posts imaginable for me to test against. Only restriction is that it may not include:
- $[...]
- the search function
- animations
Those are not yet implemented. If you do give me examples of that, they will go in my future test cases pile.

Das Fediverse ist so viel mehr als nur #Mastodon. Ich zu Beispiel nutze noch einen #Writefreely Blog für meine Charaktertagebücher meines DnD Charakters.
Schaut euch um was euch interessiert, schaut euch nach einem neuen Zugang zum Fediverse um wenn euch der eine den ihr habt nicht zusagt. Ich feiere die Vielfalt an Zugängen hier im #fediverse, die alle irgendwie zusammenführen.
