@Mastodon@mastodon.social @mellifluousbox@mastodon.social @Gargron@mastodon.social I need a job real bad. Ill be a toilet slave. Literally doesnt matter, i need some money and bad

@chewie

Would be better, but i'm unsure, if i want to know, why a spreadsheet application is required... 🤔

@Mastodon

@nick @chewie @Mastodon
International nonprofits have incredibly complex finances, which they have to collect and process through massive spreadsheets, which they then have to attach the CSVs of to send to the government.

If it's in Microsoft Excel, it probably means that whoever they were going through originally was using Excel, and they have to maintain some sort of backwards compatibility with those documents. Note that the more advanced functions of spreadsheet programs are not interoperable: they don't use the same scripting language. (I am personally in favor of them adopting JavaScript, let Google sheets did, as a common standard)

@Raccoon

If we talk about a german #GmbH, you don't have to send CSV files... using a spreadsheet application sounds more like a good way to get in trouble with the tax office.

But i don't want to start a discussion here... ;-)

@chewie @Mastodon

@nick @Raccoon @chewie @Mastodon Excel is unfortunately industry standard in corporate finance (even at non-profits), most financial reports and especially budgets for grants are made in it...

@nick @chewie @Mastodon I am speculating that mastodon runs on excel VBA macros

@nick @chewie @Mastodon The world's financial system sadly relies on MS Excel (some on older versions) than LibreOffice, from what I heard.

@Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron so Microsoft owns the mastadon finance team? Your kicking back a monthly fee to the "linux is cancer" team?

@matt @Mastodon @Gargron Obviously we try to use as many open-source options as possible internally. MS Excel and GSheets seem to be the best available options to cover the requirements. I've used EtherCalc myself and it is very, very basic and the UX is not great. For this role one would need a spreadsheet tool to create pivot tables, for examples. But, yes, "MS Excel" should be read as "fine to bring LibreOffice Calc, if you want".

@Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron Microsoft excel.. Ow noooo. I have the feeling the whole financial sector is run on top of excel. It makes me sad.

@Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron hey basically not a lot of people know German besides my brother, and I don't think its a good idea to actually hire German people, just hire people u understand,but good job helping ppl!

@e thank you for the recommendation, we will reach out! ◡̈

@e I tried reaching out on Linkedin but not sure how active she's on there?

Can you please pass her the link to our opening and see if she's interested?

Thank you so much!

@Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron I used to be the Operations Assistant at the Free Software Foundation. I wish that I knew more than ein bisschen German. :(

@Mastodon

Has anyone else experienced difficulties with translating content into Indonesian on this app ?
Are there any settings or tips to improve the translation quality ?

@Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron If integrated it would be an huge benefit to the 🌍🌎. Imagine wanting to see a place on openstreetmap and user photos appear (like google earth) or geolocate a photo or video on socials that supports ActivityPub. The possibilities are huge and would involve more people.

@KAM0F @Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron we have a type for places in AP, and i think osm would make a good place vocabulary.

@evan @Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron Osm is opensuorce, respects privacy and is supported by a large coumunity just like AP. If these giants would collaborate and integrate their software it would only be of great benefit to all of us. Another example is an entrepreneur who has opened store and wants to show products in mastodont or pixelfed. Those who use osm and see the store will see photos of the store and products appear.

@evan @Mastodon @mellifluousbox @Gargron The possibilities are many and would convolve many more people in these great opensource platforms that respect privacy.
