Found the hand written notes from my ancestor. Written at least 100 years ago. reading it on Christmas night and it says ‘after 4 months by boat, we arrived on the eve of the 25 Dec 1851.’ (to South Australia from Hamburg in Germany) What a treasure to hold his letter in my hand now and read that on the anniversary of their immigration. #smallstories

@wentale I have a box of letters sent to my grandmother in Philadelphia while he was in Greece in 1912-13 fighting in the Greek revolution. They are fascinating to read. Part war journalism. Part social commentary, reflective of the times. I've been slowly transcribing to archive and share with the family.
Your treasure must be a wonderful piece of family history.

@tutormentor1 Yes I hope to transcribe for my family. Interestingly the writer makes it clear that he does not want the writings public. My initial thought was to get a copy to the house in Germany that still stands but to respect his wishes I won’t do that.
