@nico198X @FediTips I want to like #Sengi, i really do, but each time i keep coming back to retry it, i simply have to leave it again coz:

  • can't resize columns,
  • Markdown dot/number points nfg,
  • editing toots loses ALL Markdown formatting applied during initial compose,
  • quoting via Markdown gives no visual indication [in Sengi, albeit looks ok from other front-ends] that text is quoted

It's a pity.

Have you tried #Statuzer?

Have i gone blind? Afaict, the current version of #GlitchSoc used in #InfosecSpace , no longer lets us specify a character-number beyond which toots will automatically fold / collapse. I regarded that as a major reason for even bothering to favour a glitch.social instance [along with, ofc, its support of Markdown formatting].

Maybe this is not even a recent change / degradation? Over recent months i've been repeatedly hopping between the native Masto web page, & #Statuzer, #Phanpy, & #Sengi, so possibly the change happened "unsighted" by me, months ago?

What a bugger!

@jerry - have you heard anything from upstream wrt if they plan to restore this feature, pls?

This is pretty disappointing, not least given the several months-old bug that broke correct behaviour of Unread notifications badge: Display a badge for unread notifications in the column icons when the notifications column isn't open in the #AdvancedWebInterface remains unfixed.

A question to users of #sengi #sengiapp

When you look at your Notifications column, HOW do you discern new notifications from older ones you've previously seen?

Is there some icon / symbol i'm not seeing? Is there some different font or background colour i'm not seeing?

Or, is there none of that, & users are just expected to have a good memory? I have a rotten memory, so having to rely on it here is quite inefficient.

For reference, Mastodon itself, & also the #Statuzer alternative front-end, both provide a distinctive visual indicator for each new notification, which the user can hide once she's read all of them. I really wish i could have that same functionality in Sengi.

@MsDropbear42

Not perfect (yet), yes. I'm looking for a single-column client with strong navigation capabilities, i.e. switching between lists, subscribed hashtags and other timelines should be as fast and painless as possible.

Multi-column clients like #Sengi give me the creeps (not sure whether Sengi still has these tiny rectangles at the bottom, for column selection? The ones that don't have any indicator which column they represent).

#Whalebird once looked like a promising single-column app, but its navigation column still isn't scrollable - you can't even see the full list of your lists in it, and the related bug ticket is pending since two major releases, so I have given up on it.

@katzenberger @phanpy It's very good, but still frustrates me & i keep having to change away from it. Over the past one or two months, lotsa bouncing around these; they all have good pluses, but also weaknesses that sooner or later drive me away.

  • #Mastodeck: hardcoded to 500char, no Desktop Notifications, no #SlowMode, no self-toot CWs(?)
  • #Sengi: can't resize columns, editing toots loses ALL #Markdown formatting!, quoting via Markdown gives no visual indication that text is quoted
  • #Statuzer: Likes, Boosts, Bookmarking toots in one column do NOT flow automatically to same toots in other columns til Reload
  • #Phanpy: can't globally suppress Boosts in Lists; does Notifications weirdly in a way that frequently causes me to miss newer ones that appear down the timeline & need scrolling to discover [why on earth aren't they ALL at the top???]

@rl_dane @dm @elk @statuzer Update on my earlier toot, fwiw. I have been revisiting #Sengi since my earlier toot. I have confirmed that unlike #Statuzer sadly, my #Friendica instance does work fine in it, as well ofc as Masto. 🎉 🥳 👯‍♀️

It's not yet final, but so far my hypothesised workaround for the serious design flaw in Sengi of users having no apparent way to resize the column widths, is looking very promising. Rather than my hitherto paradigm of keeping my fedi-UI du jour as a conventional pinned tab[which then, in Sengi's case, exposes the column width problem], i have installed it as a #WebPanel in my :firefox_nightly: #FirefoxSecondSidebar, & therein narrowed that specific WP pane only to the width occupied by my two timeline columns. So far it seems to be working pretty darn well, so... this might soon become officially my new paradigm.

Thus, curious, have you peeps also tried your GTS in Sengi?
