With the world changing around us, many governments and organisations are trying to reduce their dependency on tech giants. Here's an update on how one German federal state is moving 30,000 PCs to LibreOffice (and longer-term, Linux): https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2025/03/13/updates-on-schleswig-holstein-moving-to-libreoffice/ #foss #opensource #freesoftware
We just released Mastodon 4.3.6, 4.2.19 and 4.1.24. They contain important security fixes.
We recommend server administrators to update as soon as possible if they use SAML, or are on the development version.
If you are using our nightly releases, a container image with the fix has been published with the nightly.2025-03-14-security tag.
Full release notes and update instructions are available on our GitHub release page:
If Germans own #Hitler - and we obviously do - then Americans definitely own #Trump .
Saying: "I didn't vote for him!" Is no longer enough. Now the question is: "Do you comply, or do you resist?"
The Germans who grew up after WWII also asked these questions to the generations of their parents and grandparents... and the latter often failed to have good answers.
Thanks to the magic of the Streisand effect, I just heard about #CarelessPeople - a book by former Meta employee Sarah Wynn-Williams.
Apparently the company is FREAKING OUT and seeking legal ways to stop its promotion. I can see why. This article about it in the Times made my jaw drop: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/10/books/review/careless-people-sarah-wynn-williams.html
I will definitely order it at my local bookshop.
Putting an end to the debate regarding if it's ok to punch a Nazi or not.
From now on it's called "A Roman High Five"
I know we all love to criticize older generations, but in the 20th century if someone did a Nazi salute you could almost guarantee that a WW2 veteran would punch them in the head, and I think there was a great societal benefit to that.
Baba Is You is now 6 years old! Thank you for all these years of support and kindness!

Can't be repeated enough:
"Elon Musk is not engaged in an “efficiency drive”. He is not trying to save money. He is trying to cripple the state and destroy the public sector, since oligarchs of his ilk think these are by nature a waste of money and that their functions should be privatized. Media should report it as such."

Tell a friend to save a life:
name.lowercased().contains(searchText.lowercased())
name.localizedStandardContains(searchText)
The latter ignores case, but also ignores diacritics (cafe vs café), handles localized variants (ẞ → ss, etc), and is supported in SwiftData.
Good morning!
(Update: This is not a blasphemy mod. It was a product sold by SiliconGraphics in Germany. There is even a spec sheet for the Espressigo. Ask google if you don't believe me)
A web browser should *NEVER* be able to look inside your clipboard without an explicit user action (such as ctrl-v). Honestly, this should not be a controversial statement. Microsoft Edge is one of the browsers that ships this dangerous capability. Here is the dialog you need to hunt for to turn this API off.
