I've been using the beautiful #qksms app on Android for a while now. It works quite well but I have a little quibble¹ and upstream is abandoned.
Turns out there is a "revival" fork, called #quik. The issue tracker on GitHub doesn't exactly inspire confidence (many open, serious sounding bugs). Has anyone tried it? Is it good?
¹) When sending an SMS fails (happens frequently, cause I have bad reception), I don't get notified and there is no auto-retry.
Bon toujours pas de MMS avec certains contact sur #QKSMS ...
@Zid_K proprietary softwares == haram
#zipoapps will takedown simple apps repo eventually.

Fellow #foss and #floss enthusiasts, lately #qksms has been failing to send images to my contacts so I have, unfortunately, fallen back to G-Messages for communication. Due to this, I'm thinking of hosting my own #matrix server to use for my own personal communications with bridges for G-Messages and SMS since that's primarily what my contacts use. However, I'm not entirely sure if the work is worth it just for little ol' me (and maybe my partner). Thoughts? Experiences?

Bon visiblement #QKSMS est hors de cause, j'ai testé avec l'app de base et c'était pareil, tout refonctionne après un reboot ... Android ça me fatigue ...
@csolisr Yes, for example #QKSMS https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.moez.QKSMS/ which is much better than anything Google ever made.
@kat Indeed. Also: most SMS I get are from companies (e.g. the post office) and I was happy to see these in #Signal rather than in Google's #SMS app, which keeps harassing me so that I send them more personal data (every single time it's launched).
Now I switched to #QKSMS which seems good. Having to switch to yet another app in order to handle SMS securely doesn't improve anything.
